going home
corvallis senior photography

S has been here for quite a while as an exchange student, and she’ll be leaving soon to go home.I know lots of people here will miss her sweet smile and happy ways.If you’ve noticed the moomintroll pin on my camera bag, S is the one who brought that over from Finland. I remember my teacher reading finn family moomintroll to my class when I was seven, and if you’ve never read it you really should – it’s one of “Time Out’s 1000 books to change your life!”

We met for a little mini shoot at her host family’s house, and it was so beautiful I just wanted to stay there for hours and keep taking pictures until all my memory cards filled up. The thundery weather gave us some lovely soft light, and there were daisies and long grassy fields everywhere. Here are a couple of my favorites.

I love this one!

What a beautiful young lady! Not sure they do senior photos in Finland, so she will have something special to share once she gets home. She is very lucky to have these pictures!

I am partial to brown eyes – my hubby and son have them and you have captured her pretty brown eyes just beautifully!

Her expression in the second cracks me up!! I just want to take that little pug home with me, he’s so cute! You captured some real genuine moments with these two, nice work :)

four generations of beautiful
corvallis family photography

I went back to baby N’s house today for a four generation family shoot with the women in her mom’s family. There was baby N, her mom, her grandma and her great-grandma, and her aunt and great-aunt. It was so fun to hang out with them in their lovely home, and i was struck by the powerful sense of love and connection between them. the kind of sisterhood that you know will always be there, no matter what.

At the end of our session, baby N was a little bit tired of us fussing with her. She just wanted to relax and eat and snuggle, but we decided to try for one last shot – her grandma wanted to show everyone’s hands supporting her. So we took of her clothes, and set up the shot, and were expecting maybe one quick shot before baby N let us know that she had had enough. But as if by magic, the moment she was placed in the loving hands of  all her women-folk she was transformed. She became instantly calm, her eyes opened wide, she settled down into her soft throne and acted just like a little princess.

I love this shot. It’s one of my all-time favorites. It says so much about love and family. Little n looks so cute, and look at the power of all those hands supporting each other and supporting her. In the second one she was moving around to look at all the faces, but I love the way she’s holding on tight to her great-grandma’s finger down on the bottom right.
